Why Electric Adjustable?

Improves snoring, breathing difficulties, circulation and more..

Adjustable bases, when tilted 20 degrees or higher, can significantly reduce snoring and acid reflux. Adjustable bases are also important for individuals with breathing disorders such as CHF, pneumonia, COPD, long Covid and more. By tilting the head end of the bed up, you increase breathing surface area of the lungs and allow for better breathing at night.

Electric Adjustable bases are also great for pregnant women to take pressure off the lower veins and relieve back pain. Electric adjustable beds are great for diabetics with circulatory problems, once again to increase circulation to the lower extremities.

And guess what? If you are lucky enough not to have any of the above problems, electric adjustable beds are simply great for reading in bed or watching TV. Zero Gravity mode or massage modes are also great to take the pressure off your back and relieve those sore muscles at night. These are all features you can’t get with just an ordinary base.

Will my mattress work?

How do I know which Mattress fits an electric adjustable bed?

Every mattress Direct Bed carries** is designed to work with an electric adjustable beds. It is best to speak with one of our mattress experts first to determine if the mattress you pick is best suited for an electric adjustable bed. Or perhaps you have a mattress already and would like to upgrade to an electric adjustable, speak with us first.

The mattresses that won’t work with electric adjustable beds are mattresses with bonnell coil systems, mattresses with wire edge guard systems or stiff foam edge guard systems. These mattresses can be custom made to work with an electric adjustable base by creating hinge systems in the mattress, but it is better to pick a mattress that is more suited to work with an electric adjustable bed base.

** The Brunswick Suite, Toronto Suite and Smooth Top will not work.

What Size are they?

Unlike standard bases, Electric adjustable bases are slightly different

Adjustable beds, unlike traditional boxpsrings and frames, only come in 1 of 3 sizes. Twin XL (extra long), Double or Queen. If you need a king size electric adjustable base, you will pair up (2) twin XL electric adjustables. Two twin XL bases are often synched to each other so they can rise and lower in tandem. Double electric adjustable bases are more rare, but fear not! Direct Bed is one of the few retailers who carries this rare size. In fact, Direct Bed is also one of the few retailers who carries a King size adjustable bed in one piece. If this is something you need, please call us.

Types of Bases

Wallhugger, Heads Up, Heads up / Foot up

A wall hugger electric adjustable bed base will “hug” the wall at the head end of the bed when it is adjusted upward. This type of electric adjustable base is preferred when you still want access to your night stand in the upward adjusted position. These types of electric adjustable bases will be pricier, and this is a feature you will have to determine if you want to invest in.

Just as it sounds, some electric adjustable beds only adjust the head of the bed, while others will adjust the head and foot end of the base. Most of the great features of an electric adjustable bed come with the head end adjustment of the base. For instance: snoring, acid reflux and breathing difficulties can all be remedied by tilting the head end of the bed 20 degrees or higher. A head up only base will give you the best price. The head and foot electric adjustable bed will also adjust your foot end into the reclining position, which is a benefit for circulation problems allowing blood pressure in the lower legs to be relieved.

Fancy Options.

Wireless remotes, Massagers, Zero Gravity & more..

The wireless remote is often standard with the higher priced electric adjustable beds. With Direct Bed, wireless remotes can easily be replaced if they are lost or broken.

Fancy schmancy electric adjustable beds will come with upgraded features such as massage mode, Zero Gravity, USB plugs and under bed lighting. These features are ultra luxurious and will be sure to please. The massage function on electric adjustable beds are not like a “shiatsu” or massage chair. They are more akin to a strong vibrating massage. They are often very gentle but can be selected between low, medium and strong massage.

Zero Gravity mode is a preset that tilts your body into a position, taking most of the weight off of your body and onto the bed. This feature is really amazing if you want to reduce pressure and go “weightless”. Typically, you do not fall asleep in this position.
